Synergy is defined as the interaction of elements that when combined produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual elements.
We can apply this to many aspects on the spiritual path but for our purposes, we will focus on healing.
I am truly blessed to have such a prolific teacher on all aspects of life as Paramhansa Yogananda was. He taught everything from family life to work, diet & health, friendship, how to be happy, and information on the more subtle realms of energy, will, and how to find God. This gives us the great opportunity to have a balanced life in God instead of compartmentalizing our spiritual life from the rest of our reality.
There are many aspects to healing and so many great tools to deal with the physical body, the energy body, the mind, and the soul. We can learn how to pray and send energy. We can learn how to chant or do affirmations. We can meditate or do yoga postures. Separately they are all very powerful in changing our lives and the lives of those in our care. However when we understand and use these powerful tools together, synergy happens.
At Ananda Sacramento we have a monthly healing circle that has grown quickly in popularity. Lives are being touched and people are taking notice. During the circle we offer healing energy to individuals present, usually about 3 people per monthly circle. One at a time, each individual that is receiving a healing will receive hands on healing while the rest of the individuals present send energy using one of Master’s distant healing methods. As I go through the hands on healing I verbalize what location I am sending energy to, what type of energy is coming through, or what type of energy is coming up (though nothing too personal to protect privacy). This helps us all stay focused and in tune plus helps the individual receiving to visualize, open up, and feel. Afterwards suggestions are offered to continue the healing process from the wonderful tool belt of healing methods taught by Yogananda. Sometimes it’s an affirmation to change thought patterns. Sometimes it’s singing or chanting to open up the heart or one of the other chakras. Sometimes food or diet changes will help. Often working more deeply with one of the meditation or devotional practices is encouraged.
Part of the power of using these tools together is that we come to realize that we truly are divine children of God. We experience the fact that we can heal ourselves through scientific methods as taught by Paramhansa Yogananda, with deep devotion (which draws grace), energy, and will. One important job of a healer is to bring others to that realization that they can heal themselves and must be an active participant in the healing process.
Not all healings are physical healings but as Master said, the highest healing you can give someone is a spiritual healing. So don’t be discouraged if you don’t see physical results, especially right away. Trust in God and in yourself and you will see positive changes in your life.
